"The dark watercolor surface of the painting is a tangled relationship of washes, lifts, and stains. I am interested in allowing structures to emerge from the accumulation of marks.

Across the top of the painting is an embedded system called a cellular automata. These systems often have emergent collective behavior, or behavior where multiple simple things, acting in an interconnected way, can create spontaneous and complex outcomes. While these computational ideas have broad application, they are particularly useful for understanding ecologic relationships and emergent natural structures. "

Urban salvaged Black Walnut and maple

""Finding the Balance" is inspired by nature and seeing how well nature balances itself. It's about how I can look to nature as a guide in finding the balance in my own life. I work with the wood to enhance what it already naturally has, as opposed to working against it. I'm letting the wood speak for itself with its own beauty and color.”
